EAR CARE INFO

proear 2000

For many divers, ear problems affect their ability to enjoy their sport more than any other health issue. More dives are aborted and more diving holidays are shortened due to ear problems than any other cause.

Water and pressure affect every diver's ears. Infection and discomfort to the ear are the most common health risks involved in diving, often causing permanent damage. Many divers find they must interrupt expensive, long awaited diving explorations as a result of ear problems. The financial loss and unfulfilled expectations are enormous.

PROEAR 2000™ is the world's only practical ear protector for divers, designed and developed by diving physicians, engineers and instructors in order to enhance diver safety and comfort.

proear 2000PROEAR 2000™ unique design and performance, allows divers to keep their ears dry, thereby:

* Improving diver comfort and preventing painful ear problems
* Improving hearing and sense of direction underwater
* Simplifying equalization of pressures while diving

ProEar 2000How the ProEar 2000 works
The ear cups cover the ears forming a watertight seal (once properly positioned and taking care to take out all excessive hair). Air is allowed into the ear cups when exhaling through the nose into the mask and then through the thin tubing which runs from the mask skirt into the ear cups passing through non return valves in the tube and into the ear cups. This allows the air space in the ear cups to equalize according to ambient pressure. The mask, ear cups and indeed the entire respiratory system become a closed circuit equalized air pressure system.

The ear cups serve as a primary filter of ambient water pressure from the sea and the tubes mimic the Eustachian tubes allowing the diver to easily equalize the pressure in the ear cup before it ever reaches the ear drum.

All the diver has to do is gently blow air through his nose to keep the ambient pressure (taken from the regulator) into the mask and ear cups. This creates a kind of 'buffering' effect that basically allows the ears to equalize in 2 stages. The first from the sea pressure into the ear cup and the second from the ear cup onto the eardrum.

The action of the silicone tube mimics the Eustachian tube but transports air in a much easier less obstructed fashion. The silicone membrane of the ear cup mimics the eardrum but is obviously more flexible and not effected by cold or pollutants.

Some divers will still have to pinch their nose shut in order to equalize but the process should definitely be easier. The ear cups can be cleared of any water similar to clearing your mask.

The ProEar 2000 mask also protects against ear infections, bony calcium deposits in the ear, and cold. The ProEar 2000 also allows for the directionality of sound, thereby allowing the diver (for the first time) to actually sense where sound direction is coming from!

FAQ's about our PROEAR 2000 MASKS WITH PRESCRIPTION LENSES

1. Are the lenses ground into one piece?

No the lenses are made just like spectacle lenses except the curves are different then they are shaped and glued onto the inside of the original mask lenses.

2. Can I buy them at the scuba shop?

No - however you can simply order the mask from us and supply your script complete with the PD measurment and we will have them specifically made for you.

3. My friend is short-sighted he purchased lenses through the scuba shop?

True, the only ready made lenses available over the counter are easy Myopic lenses e.g.: -3.00 up to –8.00, these are simple powers but still good if you only need simple minus lenses.

4. I have Astigmatism can you do that?

Yes, a straight minus lens as described before creates a single focus in the eye, Astigmatic people have 2 points of focus inside there eye. To check if ready made or custom made is needed always contact us first.

5. I have worn glasses all my life I now need extra help to read gauges can you make these.

A Bifocal is a lens with distance vision and reading vision built into one lens, this lens can also have Astigmatism , it can also be Positive powered or Negative powered, in fact we can make almost anything. Divers in the 40+ age group may only need help with gauges and camera's, a pair of gauge readers are all that is needed.

6. Can I use big single plate masks?

We can make these but they are cosmetically ugly, we much prefer the medium to smaller masks so the lenses can fit in neater, but at the end of the day the fish don’t care for looks.

7. Can I use Contact lenses instead of our special lenses?

You can but if one comes out or you get something under one lens you may run into problems, especially if you are at depth and cannot surface straight away. A Bubble of air under a lens is also painful and dangerous.

8. Can I claim some money back from my health fund in Australia?

In most cases yes - if you are covered for optical and have not used up your claims in the health funds claiming period. Please check with your health insurance provider for confirmation. We can provide a receipt with our provider number from our lab.

9. My Optometrist said the centre’s have to be right?

True this is why even a simple -3.00 in ready-made’s for example can be not quite right. The centre’s or PD ( Pupillary Distance) of ready made’s are set approx 60mm apart. People’s eye’s vary in separation from lets say 58mm up to 71mm so ready made’s are more times wrong with the centre’s than right

10. Can I just go to my Optometrist to have a mask made?

You can try, but we doubt whether your optometrist even knows they can be made so if you wish you can try but if you have a holiday coming up don’t ring us in a panic if thing don’t happen as you wish, lenses can take up to 4 weeks to make because this is not like making a pair of spectacles there is more involved.

11. What if I am not happy?

In the unlikely event that you are not happy you get 100% of your money back, our reputation is excellent in the scuba industry and we intend to keep it that way.

12. Do you send overseas?

Yes we have sent many overseas, as is the case with all of our product range.
